Missing Sox Bowling News

Blondie Bowling Cartoon

Welcome to Week #2  Tonight we're facing Timmy Fryer and the SeaDog's.  They usually do well against us.  On top of that we're bowling on the end lanes, 21, and 22, which usually freak me out.  UPDATE: Dick Albert says there's a low pressure area inside the bowling alley.  It's really muggy, and the entire league is sticking on the lanes.  Talcum powder is flowing freely, but it's not really helping all that much.......

Quote of the Week:

8/21 From the ABC Bowling Magazine, we have 60 year old first time bowler Bill Peace who bowling for the first time had these things to say: " I started of with a 133 average that grew to 191 in four months ..... I really don't see what the fuss is about: I practice, I advance my knowledge, I hit my mark most of the time." "When I take lunch I skip the food and bowl three games" "... some (bowlers) are in disbelief, other competitors are just angry." (editors note:  I really hate Bill, I hope all the leagues he bowls in hate him too.  Die Bill Die!!!!)
8/28 " The older people have better water retention! "  Terry Schmidt.
9/4 " Get your head out of your feet" Bob Emerson (HUH?????)

Bob's Name-o-the-week:

For 9/11: "The Craw": remember this name next week, and get entered in the drawing for a trip for two to Shrewsbury.

Game #1

Let's blame all the bad scores from this game on the lane conditions.  People are sticking left and right.  It gunna get ugly.  Dennis had his share of problems and was 30 pins under average.  On her first game back Terry sucks slightly less and is only 20 pins under average.  Advantage US.  Dawn tops Dennis and is about 35 pins under average.  After a shaky start I was just about on average with a 158, which gives us another 30 pins on total.  Timmy pulls out a really great game considering the conditions rolling a 182, while Deb fights back with a 117.  We have a slight lead now, with the anchors coming up.  Jay had the worst game of all the Sea Dogs going 37 under average.  Our savior the Bobinator had a remarkable game and didn't seem to be affected at all by the lane conditions.  His 221 cemented our game one victory giving us an 85 pin lead.

Game #2

The theme for this game is if you did well in game #1, don't expect the same in game #2, and if you didn't do well, you'll do better.  People must be getting accustomed to the 'conditions'.  Dennis has a 141 which is just a bit under average.  Despite a slip and fall, Terry sucked it up and rolled a 115.  Advantage (slight) to the Sea Dogs.  Dawn rolls a 133 this time while I have some problems, and only manage a 136, giving them another 10-15 on their lead.  Timmy can't match his game one score and rolls a 159, just slightly under average.  Deb gets a bit better this game rolling a 123.  The Sea Dogs extend their lead once again.  In the anchor position Jay still hasn't found his stride and rolls a 130.  Bob struggles a little and rolls a 167.  We lost this game by 10 pins.  CRAP!

Game #3

News flash.  Terry bows out of further competition tonight - kudos for having the energy to roll a couple games.  Timmy and Jay on the Sea Dogs quit sighting bad lane conditions.  So we have a revised lineup.  For the Dogs it's Dennis, and Dawn, while the Missing Sox present me, Deb, and Bob.  Dennis does better than game one but not as good as game two in rolling a 132.  He was 15 under average tonight.  Terry's blind score makes things just about even.  Dawn has a 131 giving her a 373 series which was 21 pins under average.  My 140 didn't help our cause.  The Dogs have about a 15 pin lead.  Timmy is bowling blind, so things are again even, and it's up to Deb.  She comes through in flying colors, with a spectacular 165, the highlight of which was a three strikes in a row (we won't mention the 4-6-7-10 that followed.)  We have about a 25 pin lead.  Bob has his worst game of the night with a 152, but it's softened by Jay's blind score.  We won this game by 18 pins.  Bob made a bizarre spare leave in the 10th frame which didn't wind up making a difference in who won, but it would have been close.  In taking the last game we won total by 94 pins.

Bowling Oddity of the week:

It a good oddity though.  Deb's three strikes in a row in the third game to give us the game!

Jackpot Status:

The 4-6-7-10 We had it a couple more times tonight, and no one made it.  The jackpot is now up to $4
The 7-10 Thanks to Deb for being the first one this year to get this spare leave. She didn't make it, so the Jackpot remains  $1

Epilogue:

We  came we saw, we kicked some butt.  Let's just take our six points tonight and be glad the night is over.

Medals:

Gold Bob Emerson Was the only bowler to excel in game #1, his 221 was the biggest factor in giving us an 85 pin lead after the game.  He came back down to earth a bit in games two and three but still rolled a 540, and was the only bowler to be over average (by six pins.)
Silver Deb Pelley Scuffled a bit in games one and two, but came up HUGE in game #3.  Her three strikes in a row in the middle of the game were the reason we won game #3.  she was three pins under average rolling a 405
Bronze Terry Schmidt She sucked it up and bowled tonight.  She bowled a couple game rolling a 113, and a 115, before hanging it up for the night (start slow please, don't hurt yourself!)  Terry was 15 under average
Papier-mâché Paul Sluckis I can't blame my game tonight on being sick, damm it.  I had a good first game. While I didn't suck badly in the other games, a couple spares here or there could have made the night palatable.  OH WELL.  I was 15 pins under average rolling a 434 series.

MVP Voting Totals:

Bob is in the lead with 10 points, Deb is second with 5.  Terry, and I are bringing up the rear - I'll try to suck it up for next week
