Quote of the Week:

8/21 From the ABC Bowling Magazine, we have 60 year old first time bowler Bill Peace who bowling for the first time had these things to say: " I started of with a 133 average that grew to 191 in four months ..... I really don't see what the fuss is about: I practice, I advance my knowledge, I hit my mark most of the time." "When I take lunch I skip the food and bowl three games" "... some (bowlers) are in disbelief, other competitors are just angry." (editors note:  I really hate Bill, I hope all the leagues he bowls in hate him too.  Die Bill Die!!!!)
8/28 " The older people have better water retention! "  Terry Schmidt.

Bob's Name-o-the-week:

For 9/4:  "The Bobinator"  Know know that name at 5:45pm and you may win valuable prizes

 Game #1

It's like the bowling never ended, I started off the first game with an above average 173.  Deb had a good 136, and Bob eyed a 200 but ended up with a 198.   One bowler short and we almost managed an 800 game.  On the other side of the lanes Denise rolled an average 145, Charlie was a bit under average with a 134, while Bruce rolled a great 213.  We bowled a B+ series, and only won by 14 pins.

Game #2

Time to come back down to earth.  I rolled a credible 165, and Bob rolled a slightly under average 169.  Deb..... Deb, Deb, Deb.......  what can we say about Deb's second game.  Well frankly it sucked.  I'm sure each of us will have one or more of these games during the year, but Deb decided to get it over with right away.  Her 93 gave us a 704 series.  For the Jaguars Denise was under average with a 120, but Charlie and Bruce were both over average with a 168 and 205 respectively.  They beat their first game score by one pin, and crushed us by 70ish pins.  They have total pins by about 55.

Game #3

Or as I like to call it, "MY GAME FROM HELL"  Whatever ailment I have started kicking me in the nads this game.  I felt like crap.  I did OK on the left lane, but had 5 opens on the right lane, four of which were splits.  I crashed down to earth with a 129.  Deb recovered nicely from the last game rolling a 118 and Bob also rebounded to his first game form with a 197 game.  We rolled a 721 series.   So how did the bad guys do?  Denise rolled an on average 139.  Charlie was a bit below average with a 143, and Bruce had his worst game of the night with a 179.  We lost the game by 18 pins.  Crap!   Who can we blame.  We can't blame Terry - OK maybe a little, but even if we include her 10 pins we still would have lost.  You can't blame me, I was sick - OK, I hear you saying it.  SUCK IT UP!  We can't blame Deb all that much - she was only 20 pins under average that game.  OH... I guess we can blame her after all.  So at the moment it's Terry's, Deb's and my fault for game #3.  Not gunna happen.  It wasn't our fault, it was the fault of the Jaguars for practicing over the off season.  Anyone can do that.  We don't practice and are proud of it!

Bowling Oddity of the week:

Paul got the 4-5 split, and while hitting the four pin (on it's right edge) somehow missed the 5 pin.  I know I'm a member of the Missing Sox, but how is that possible?

Jackpot Status:

The 4-6-7-10 Deb had this spare leave twice tonight (twice in the first game), and since she didn't make it the jackpot is up to $2
The 7-10 Jackpot at $0

Key Bowling Stat (or maybe not so key):

Bowler 7 pin left / converted 10 pin left  / converted 5 pin left / converted Splits left / converted
Terry 0 0 0 0 / 0
Paul 1 / 1 2 / 2 2 / 2 7 / 0
Deb 0 / 0 0 / 1 3/ 0 1 / 0
Bob 0 / 2 0 / 0 2 / 2 2 / 0

Epilogue:

Bob bowled a great game, but for Deb and I (or is it me), we reflected the fact that it's week #1 (and did I mention I was sick????).  I'm sure we'll be up to speed next week when we bowl on the end set of lanes against Timmy and the rest of the Sea Dogs.

Medals:

Gold Bob Emerson had two games 25 pins over average and one game almost on average.  For a while he flirted with a 600 series but settled for a very respectable 564.  He couldn't make a 7 pin to save his life, and had the seasons first 'first ball' gutter ball.  All very Missing Sox-like.  Bob was14 pins over average
Silver Paul Sluckis Battling a cold/flu, I had a decent first game, a second game slightly above average, then the bottom dropped out and I had a crappy final game (by which time the ball felt about 50 pounds.)  I ended up four pins under average, rolling a 467 series
Bronze Deb Pelley Had an average first game, and then hit the wall in game #2 recording a 93 (our first sub 100 game of the year.)  She got a little better in the final game and managed a 347 series, which was 22 pins under average.  She did however bowl today.....
Papier-mâché Terry Schmidt Speaking of which, Terry didn't bowl today.  Surgery, Smurgery, the Missing Sox don't care (well maybe Deb does.)  Thankfully Terry will be back next week unless she has a hangnail.
